The Multinational CIMIC Group is a NATO partner CIMIC specialized unit, projected for the civil-military cooperation at tactical and operational level, to enhance the effectiveness of military operations and serve as an essential forum for CIMIC consultations and as a centre of expertise for CIMIC related matters. MNCG HQ can be tasked by SACEUR with Collective Defense Operations under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty and Crisis Response Operations under non-Article 5 in support of peace and international security. The challenges for MNCG sit within the core functions of CIMIC: Civil Military Liaison, Support the Force and Support Civil Actors and their Environment. MNCG has been taking part in all the missions abroad of the Italian Army since the post-cold war period. In such contexts, MNCG personnel develops an up-to-date and comprehensive Civil-Military Analysis of Complex Environments supporting the establishment and maintenance of a coherent and real-time operational understanding of the civilian situation in order to support planning and the conduct of military operations. Moreover, MNCG is active in all the main NATO and national CIMIC operations and exercises preventing conflict between parties that operate in the same operational area and enabling actors to synergistically combine their unique set of resources to achieve collective safety and security goals as well as their individual organization-level goals. Referring to the educational point of view, MNCG provides a wide range of NATO basic CIMIC courses and is the venue for expertise and consultancy on civil-military cooperation at tactical and operational level, constantly in contact with different stakeholders such as GOs, NGOs, lOs and Host Nation Authorities. Colonel Ugo Proietto is the MNCG Commander. Colonel Proietto is a Cavalry Senior Officer that in his 30-year military career has spanned the globe, from Kosovo to Iraq, Lybia, Lebanon and The Nederlands.
